Summer Admissions Checklist

Summer is quickly approaching! In June, July, and August, the Admissions Office is continually working to recruit great students, preparing for our summer events, and focusing on helping each admitted student be as prepared as possible for Orientation and Move-In. While you’re making plans for summer vacation, here are some things to keep in mind.

Deposited Students

Whoo hoo! You’ve made it official with GWU. We are so excited to welcome you into the Class of 2023 and help you prepare for a fantastic first semester. Here’s what you need to be thinking about:

  • Have you signed up for Jumpstart? This event is designed just for you. Each student and their family receives an individualized schedule of appointments with Financial Planning, Academic Advising, and the Business Office. You can review your financial aid package, finalize your class schedule, and take care of any other fine details before Move-In Day in August.

  • Have you completed your Housing Application? The sooner you complete this, the more likely it is that you’ll secure a spot in your first-choice housing option. This is located under the “Housing-Meals-Vehicle” tab in WebbConnect. If you’re not sure where you want to live, schedule a visit with us over the summer to tour our housing options.

  • Have you made a packing list? Make a list of all the items you want to bring to college. It will make the moving process a lot easier! Start thinking about how you want to decorate your space - are you more minimal, or will you want everything to match with your roommate? When it comes to big items like TV’s, microwaves, and mini-fridges, ask your roommate what they plan to bring and decide if you’d be ok with sharing their items and vice versa.

Accepted Students

Congratulations, you’ve been accepted to GWU! Still on the fence about whether or not to attend? We want to help you make that decision. Here are some suggestions about your next steps.

  • Pay your deposit. This secures your spot in the Class of 2023! Paying your deposit is really simple. You can do it online, via WebbConenct, or you can call your admissions counselor and pay over the phone.

  • Schedule a visit. Come and see us! Taking a campus tour is a great way to help make your decision. Check out residence halls, academic buildings, and explore campus in the beautiful summer weather. Our summer tour guides would be more than happy to show you around and tell you all about why they love GWU. Schedule a visit online:

  • Talk to your Admissions Counselor. If you have specific questions about what coming to GWU means for you and your family, your Admissions Counselor is a great resource. They are here to help you in any way possible, and can set up appointments with other offices as needed. Give them a call, send them an email, or drop by the Admissions Office to chat.

Rising High School Seniors

What an exciting time! As you prepare for your senior year of high school, take some time this summer to think about your college search. Here are some things that you should do to to prepare:

  • Make a list. Research potential colleges and universities you think you’d like to attend. Think about things like: large vs. small, private vs. public, close to home vs. far away. Know what you’d like to study? Explore majors and academic programs to see if these departments would be a great fit. Make sure that the schools you’re looking at check all of the important boxes for you!

  • Schedule a visit. Although students aren’t on campus during the summer, this is still a great way to get familiar with GWU if you’ve never visited before. Take a full tour of campus with one of our summer tour guides and let them tell you their story about why they made GWU their home. Schedule a visit:

  • Apply. Our application officially opens on August 1 for admission for the Fall 2020 class. It’s online, free, and there is no essay requirement!

  • Enjoy your summer. The college search can seem daunting, but don’t forget to relax and enjoy your summer. This time off from school is valuable to rest and recharge before you begin your senior year. Make time to hang out with friends, travel, and do things that you enjoy.
